At Vogelvlei Yacht Club the focus is on amateur sailing. While the sailing season is jam-packed with regattas, club activities also include fun-filled events for the landlubbers.
Club House
The club house is the heart of VYC. Here we get together for braais, trivia evenings, themes parties, meetings and the odd game of pool; here we huddle together when gale force winds keep us off the water or the scorching sun chases us into the shade. The galley provides scrumptious meals on regatta weekends and something to whet the whistle after a long day on the water.
Sailing
Sailing is our passion and avid sailors of all ages scramble for their crafts at the slightest sign of wind. While the sailors do their stuff out there on the water, supporters watch from the bridge or from the shore to cheer them on. Our great supporting spirit won us the “Best Team Spirit” Award at MAC24 for the past 4 years! More…
Rescue and Safety
Two well-equiped rescue boats are on duty during regatta weekends, manned by thoroughly trained skippers and crew. Qualified first-aid officials and a well-stocked first-aid room ensure that medical assistance is at hand.
Camping
On regatta weekends, we open our gates to sailors from other yacht clubs. Camping space is available on the large lawn in front of the club house on a first-come-first-served basis. A new wind free camping area is also situated behind the ablution block and has wash up facilities for campers.
We only have 3 rules for visitors:
1) Bring your own drinking water
2) Take your garbage home with you
3) Have fun!
Overnight camping fees per night:
Adults (per person) R40
Children (per child) – 5 to 12 yrs: R20

Weather Conditions
During summer, the prevailing south-easter provides the wind in our sails. With temperatures that can reach 40 degrees, sunscreen, a hat and lots of liquids are compulsory accessories. During the cold and rainy winter, sailing activities go into hibernation for a month or two.
